What Is MMA? 

Methyl methacrylate (MMA), also known as isobutyrate methyl ester, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C5H8O2. It is a colorless liquid, slightly soluble in water, and soluble in most organic solvents such as ethanol. It is mainly used as a monomer for organic glass and is also used in the manufacturing of other resins, plastics, coatings, adhesives, lubricants, wetting agents for wood and cork, and paper polishing agents.


Production  Process

There are three prevailing processes for MMA or methyl methacrylate production, C-2 Process starting from ethylene, methanol and formaldehyde, C-3 Process (also called ACH Process) which uses the byproduct of HCN from acrylonitrile production as the feedstock, and C-4 process which uses isobutene or tertiary butanol as the feedstock.
